In Ethiopia, CRS has a long and rich history of providing emergency relief and development assistance to the people of Ethiopia since 1958. At present, CRS/Ethiopia implements multiple projects through different partner organizations. CRS/Ethiopia has a highly diverse portfolio ranging from very large food-supported emergency response to cutting edge development programs. The current CRS/Ethiopia budget stands at $100 million with funding from the U.S. Government, UN agencies, private foundations, individual donors, and CRS private funds.

CRS Ethiopia is seeking qualified candidates for the Ethiopian Livelihoods and Resilience Program (ELRP), a five-year USAID Office for Food for Peace (FFP) Title II Development Food Assistance Project (DFAP). The ELRP will focus on building resilience to shocks, enhancing livelihoods and improving food security and nutrition for rural households vulnerable to food insecurity. ELRP will operate in Oromia Region as well as Dire Dawa Administrative Area.
Climate Change Advisor
- Based in Addis Ababa
The Climate Change Advisor will provide strategic vision, management and technical expertise in leading activities aimed at building capacity of government and communities to improve their sustainable well-being and resilience to climate shocks by embracing approaches to create, protect and rehabilitate local landscapes, watersheds and other natural resources. The incumbent will establish and maintain positive and complementary working relationships across a wide range of contributing implementing partners and GoE stakeholders. The incumbent will embody a ‘climate smart’ approach to agro-enterprise, pursuing activities that promote soil regeneration, crop diversification and other practices that minimize land degradation. The position reports directly to the ELRP PSNP Systems Manager. Through these approaches the incumbent will also work closely with the ELRP Economic Livelihoods team to help communities prepare for climate-related shocks, such as droughts, allowing them to save money, grow food surplus and rehabilitate their local environments. The incumbent will have demonstrated expertise in eco-hydrology and sustainable agriculture.
§ An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a relevant field including international development, agriculture, natural resource management, climate adaptation and/or food security. An advanced degree can be substituted with an additional 3 years of relevant experience.
§ Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience with USG or other similar development projects focused on agriculture, natural resource management, disaster risk reduction, community initiatives, resilience and watershed management, preferably Ethiopian with understanding of the Ethiopian context
