The Networking Event on “Adequate Housing for All: Partnering for the Global Housing Strategy to 2025” was held on the 4th of September at the World Urban Forum 6 (WUF). It attracted a full house of more than 120 participants that represented the key partner groups of GHS 2025 including central and provincial ministers, mayors, academicians, private sector, civil society, NGOs and development partners.
One of the 12 distinguished panelists, Mr. Per Nygaard, Specialist Director, Department of Housing and Building, Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Norway, said that “we in Norway will soon debate in parliament the importance of having a new housing policy to address housing needs in our fast growing cities with a particular focus on the needs of youth” He further elaborated that “A majority of housing ministers in the Minister’s Round Table in this year’s World Urban Forum shared a concern that developing effective housing policies was a challenge that they are facing”. Mr. Nygaard concluded that “…the Global Housing Strategy to 2025 is of relevance for everyone and it comes at an opportune time to fill a gap in the area of housing and slum upgrading”.
