The Member States present unanimously backed the GHS in the form of a Resolution entitled "Inclusive National and Local Housing Strategies to achieve the Global Housing Strategy Paradigm Shift". The highlights include the Governing Council requesting “UN-Habitat to pursue the expected outcomes of the Global Housing Strategy, … including the integration of housing with other urban uses; encouraging “pro-poor” performance of markets; promoting systemic reforms to enable wider access to adequate housing solutions; strengthening linkages between housing, the economy, employment and poverty...   How about a new type of public-private partnership? I recently was in my home country of Sierra Leone where I conducted a study on housing. I was interested in knowing how the private market is doing and how the housing stock has improved since government's "liberalization" policies. If a factory unit was set up to build the parts of the sructure to European standards then it can shipped out to what ever country it is needed. The ground preperation can be done in advance as most of the machinery for this task can be found all over the world. The building can be made to run it's self with the use of solar or wind power for electric and the use of bore holes for water. This can be done in most countries where the slums are as they usually exist by water source's, but each build would have to be looked at in it's own right.
