Trash 4 Art Workshop

As we reflect on the state of our cities and other human settlements this Urban October, UN-Habitat is
inviting colleagues within Gigiri to engage with this advocacy month through various platforms.
World Habitat Day marks the beginning of Urban October on 1 October 2018. This year’s theme is taking
action to address the municipal solid waste management challenge through the slogan “Waste wise cities”.
To put a spotlight on innovative solutions to solid waste management UN-Habitat is engaging local
artists that create art from upcycling everyday waste. Recycling and reusing waste creates a sustainable
employment option for many young people across the world. These projects foster community interaction,
spaces for budding creatives as well as fun for any art enthusiast. An exhibition on upcycled art will be on
display for two weeks this Urban October. They will use material generated within United Nations Office at
Nairobi (UNON) to create captivating pieces.
