The 10th Metropolis World Congress will focus on Cities in Transition. New city models have been established in the face of the financial downturn, the scarcity of petroleum and the depletion of the present growth model. This paradigm of change affects all aspects of cities: the environment, the city's growth model, the quality of life of the people and the urban innovations.
The Congress will provide testimonies and recommendations from diverse cities that find themselves in different processes of transition. Recognized for its innovative public policies, Porto Alegre will emerge as the ideal forum for fostering the South-South and North-South city cooperation.
Confirmed speakers include Jean-Paul Huchon - President of Metropolis/President of the Region Île-de-France; José Fortunati - Mayor of Porto Alegre; Joan Clos - Executive Director of UN-HABITAT; Geraldo Alchim - Sao Paulo Governor; and Wilm Efrink - Vice President of CISCO.
The Congress is aimed at people interested in the critical issues facing cities today. There will be networking opportunities with delegates from around the world: urban planners, government leaders, city managers, urban management experts, international NGOs, academics and other important stakeholders.
